Abstract

ABSTRACT: In the Story of “Gözyaşı” by Refik Halit Karay, impossible obligatory choice occurs when the hero of the story faces to sacrifice one of his three children during the migration. In the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s the function of logic of “either... or...” impossible compulsory choice, subject accepts two illusion. Firstly he imagines free choice. Secondly he assumes that he gets away others when he chooses one of the options. But there are a obligatory in choice that depends on “either ... or ...” logical operator. Preferences may seem different, but they are parts of the whole. It will not change the results, whatever is preferred. The hero of “Gözyaşı” during the obligatory migration either he will rescue two children by sacrificing a child or he will lose three children by continuing with three. At this point, he faces with an impossible compulsory choice. He continued to the way with three children rather than sacrificing one for save two of three children. He accepted death of a child on the way.Sacrifaced child was not his choice. But he feared the life of three children. He could not stand the thought of someone’s sacrifice. He lost his three children at the end of the journey. He felt guilty. In the logic of impossible obligatory choice, no matter what choice he will be guilty everytime. If he had rescued two children by sacrificing a child, he would have been responsible from the one . As opposed to this, he didn’t sacrifice anyone and he tried to rescue the three children, but he lost all of them. Therefore, he is guilty. At this point, the logic of impossible obligatory choice works with the subject’s deprivation.

Özet

: Refik Halit’in “Gözyaşı” öyküsünde imkânsız zorunlu seçim, öykü kahrama- nının göç esnasında üç çocuğundan ikisini kurtarmak için birini feda etmesiyle yüz yüze kaldığında ortaya çıkar.
