Abstract

Ahmet Mithat’s Zuhur-ı Osmaniyan (Emergence of Ottoman), is an uncompleted critical article of a play named Gazi Osman by Aleksandre Yani Istamatyadis. The play was translated into Turkish by Vaçidis. In his critic Ahmet Mithat disagrees the usage of acts and scenes in the play and some words. After reading Gazi Osman, it is not easy to agree with Ahmet Mithat’s critics. The play is much more decent than the most of the plays written at the time. The Gypsies who foresee the future events in the play remind the Macbeth’s witches. In this article the play and Ahmet Mithat’s views will be discussed.
