Abstract
Introduction: An impacted ureteral calculus is commonly defined as one that remains fixed at the same site more than 2 months and prevents contrast medium from passing below the calculus on IVU. In patients presenting with large and impacted ureteral calculi the success rates of the primary treatment modalities, such as ESWL or ureteroscopy may be low. Under these circumstances, performing different surgical techniques might be necessary. Herein we report our experience in 2 patients who underwent antegrade percutaneous removal of impacted upper ureteral calculi and reviewed the current literature on this issue.
