An unusual cause of obstructive anuria: an encrusted forgotten DJ stent in a solitary kidney

Abstract

Anuria is a urological emergency that can occur due to prerenal, renal or postrenal causes. Generally, treatment of postrenal anuria is performed with endoscopic or open surgical procedures using DJ stents. Although these stents are safe and practical, they may cause adverse effects, which vary from urinary tract infections to renal failure, if they are implanted long-term in the body. We present a case of a forgotten DJ stent that was implanted for 4 years in a solitary kidney for the management of anuria. We also present multimodal stone treatment of the patient in addition to a brief review of the literature.

Özet

Anüri prerenal, renal veya postrenal nedenlere bağlı olarak ortaya çıkabilen gerçek bir ürolojik acil durumdur. Postrenal nedenlere bağlı anüriler genellikle endoskopik veya açık cerrahilerle DJ stent kullanılarak giderilir. Bu stentler pratik ve güvenli olmasına karşın özellikle uzun süre vücutta kalmaları halinde üriner enfeksiyondan renal kayıplara kadar değişebilen birçok istenmeyen sonuçlara yol açabilir. Bu yazıda ürolitiazis nedeniyle nefrektomize bir hastanın 4 yıllık unutulmuş DJ stent nedeniyle anüri tablosu ile başvurması ve takibinde multi-modal tedavi ile taşsız ve stentsiz hale getirilmesi tartışıldı.
