THE EXAMINATION OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' PERCEPTION LEVELS OF THEIR BODY IMAGES IN TERMS OF SOME VARIABLES

ORTA ÖĞRETİM ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN BEDEN ALGISI DÜZEYLERİNİN FARKLI DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, orta öğretimde öğrenim gören bireylerin farklı değişkenlere göre beden algısı düzeylerini araştırmaktır. Araştırmada, betimsel nitelikli tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2014-2015 eğitim öğretim yılında Kahramanmaraş ilinde milli eğitim müdürlüğüne bağlı Spor lisesi ve Anadolu lisesinde öğrenim gören 237 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan "Kişisel Bilgiler Formu" ile katılımcıların beden algısı düzeylerini belirlemek için Secard ve Jourard (1953) tarafından geliştirilen ve Hovardaoğlu (1993) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan beden algısı ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Toplanan veriler üzerinde tanımlayıcı bilgiler sağlamak amacıyla testlere ilişkin tablolarda t-testi, Kruskal Wallis ve Mann Whitney U testi yapılmıştır (p<0.05). Öğrencilerin beden algısı düzeylerinin cinsiyet, yaş, okul değişkeni, baba eğitim düzeyleri ve aile gelir düzeyi değişkenlerine göre faklılaşma olduğu, kardeş sayısı, anne eğitim, sınıf düzeyi değişkenlerine farklılaşmadığı görülmüştür.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the secondary school students' perception levels of their body images in terms of some variables. The quantitative survey method was used in this study. Study group in this research consists of 237 students who are studying at Sport High School and Anatolian High School during the 2014-2015 academic year. The data was collected by using "Personal Information Forms", developed by the researcher and to determine the paticipants' perception levels of their bodies, the "Body Image Inventory", which was developed by Secard and Jourard (1953), and adapted into Turkish by Hovardaoğlu (1993), was used. To analyze the data obtained from this study, various inferential analyses tests such as T test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test were used (p<0.05). In the light of the data obtained, it was determined that the variables like gender, age, school, fathers' education status and the socioeconomic level of the family made a meaningful difference in the students' perception levels of their bodies. It was also determined that the number of the brothers or sisters in the family, mothers' education and class level do not make a meaningful difference.
