Abstract
Fire is the biggest threat for forests in Turkey. Turkey is in for fire sensitive region because of the climate, vegetation, and geographical location. Especially Mediterranean and Aegean regions are the most risky territories. Yearly statistics are high in Turkey like other Mediterranean countries. Forest fires affect flora, fauna and the entire forest ecosystem in the burning field. Sometimes this effect can be positive, sometimes negative, This situation may change according to animal species, fire type, fire severity and vegetation. Turkey is an extremely rich region in terms of faunal biodiversity. Our country possesses 166 mammals, 466 birds and 129 reptile’ species. The relationship between all of these species and fire, is very important for our country’s forest fauna.
