Effect of zinc deficiency on some hormones in rats

Abstract
In this study, we aimed to determine the effects of zinc deficiency on some hormonal parameters in rats. The investigation was carried out on subjects which were 6-week-old Spraque Dawley rats. The first group of rats (n=9) were fed with a diet lack of zinc for 3 weeks (n=10). The second group got a normal diet as controls (n=10). At the end of three weeks, zinc, growth hormone, free and total T3 and T4, TSH, free and total testosterone levels were determined in sera. On the whole, the data evaluated in the study indicated that zinc deficiency for 3 weeks did not cause to any significant alteration in growth hormone and total T4 levels. However, there was significant decline in free and total 73, free 74, TSH, free and total testosterone.
Özet
Bu çalışmada, çinko eksikliğinin raflarda bazı hormonal parametreleri nasıl etkilediği araştırıldı. Araştırma 3 hafta süreyle çinko eksik diyetle beslenen deney grubu (n=10) ve normal diyetle beslenen kontrol grubu (n=9) olmak üzere toplam 19 adet Spraque Dawley cinsi 6 haftalık erkek ratlar üzerinde gerçekleştirildi. Üç haftanın sonunda deney hayvanlarından alınan kan örneklerinde serum çinko, büyüme hormonu, serbest ve total T3 ile T4, TSH, serbest ve total testosteron tayinleri yapıldı. Araştırmanın sonunda genel olarak elde edilen bulgular 3 haftalık çinko eksikliğinin raflarda, büyüme hormonu ve total T4 seviyeleri üzerinde anlamlı bir değişikliğe yol açmazken, serbest ve total 73, serbest T4, TSH, serbest ve total testosteron düzeylerini önemli ölçüde azalttığını ortaya koymaktadır.
