Modified hepatitis activity index in chronic viral hepatitis

Abstract
Background: Histopathological alterations were assesed and scored according to modified hepatitis activity index known as modified Knodell's scoring system in patient with chronic viral hepatitis. The corralation between criteria, which affect severitiy and stage of disease evaluated. Materials and methods: In this study, liver biopsies were evaluated and light microscopy in 57 chronic viral hepatitis patients who had at least 6 months survillance with serological tests. All specimens were scored according to modified hepatitis activity index. The correlation between severity and stage of disease were evaluted. Results: Total histological activity index and component I, Il and III had markedly correlation with fibrosis (p< 0.001). Conclusion: Scoring of histopathologic findings according to modified hepatitis activity index provides a guidline for prognosis and evaluation of the patients with chronic viral hepatitis.

Amaç: Kronik viral hepatit olgularının histopatolojik olarak, modifiye Knodell skorlaması olarak da bilinen modifiye hepatit aktivasyon indeksine göre değerlendirilerek, hastalığın şiddetinin derecesi ile hastalığın evresi arasındaki korelasyonu araştırmaktır. Materyal ve metod: Bu çalışmada kronik viral hepatit tanısı almış ve en az 6 aydan beri serolojik olarak takip edilen 57 olgunun karaciğer iğne biyopsileri ışık mikroskobu ile değerlendirildi.. Olgular histopatolojik olarak modifiye hepatit aktivasyon indeksine göre tek tek skorlandı. Bulgulara göre belirlenen hastalığın şiddetinin derecesi He hastalığın evresi arasındaki ilişki araştırıldı. Bulgular: Toplam hepatit aktivasyon indeksi ve komponent l-ll ve III ile bağ dokusu gelişimi arasında korelasyon (p< 0.0001) tesbit edildi. Sonuç: Kronik viral hepatit olgularında histopatolojik bulguların modifiye hepatit aktivasyon indeksine göre skorlanması hastalığın gidişi ve prognoz tayininde önemli bir yol göstericidir.
