ECONOMIC CRISIS, UNEMPLOYMENT AND CRIME

Abstract

Crime has always been a very complex matter and for this reason many people have tried to explain it. Within this process, economic factors have also been one of the theories which have been set forth to explain crime. Under the ever-increasing economic crisis and unemployment, the effect of these two terms on crime has been further wondered and considered. Long term researches show us that economic crisis and unemployment not only affect people and society economically and psychologically in a negative way but also may give rise to committing crimes. Within this context, in this study which comprises of three parts, firstly the theories that try to explain crime in relation to economic factors from the past until today will be referred, then the relationship between economic crisis and crime will be mentioned. Lastly, even though unemployment is one of the major problems which come with economic crisis; the topic of unemployment and crime will be tried to be explained in detail, because unemployment is an issue which continues its existence independently from economic crisis.

Suç her zaman için çok karmaşık bir olgu olmuş ve bu sebeple birçok kişi tarafından açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu süreçte ekonomik faktörler de suçu açıklamada ileri sürülen birçok teoriden biri olmuştur. Giderek sıklaşan ekonomik krizler ve artan işsizlik karşısında ise bu iki kavramın suç üzerindeki etkisi daha çok merak edilmeye ve önemsenmeye başlanmıştır. Uzun süreli araştırmalar, ekonomik kriz ve işsizliğin insan ve toplum üzerinde yarattığı tek sorunun ekonomik ve psikolojik olmadığını aynı zamanda suça da sebebiyet verebileceğini göstermektedir. Bu kapsamda, üç kısımdan oluşan bu çalışmada öncelikle günümüze kadar suçu ekonomik nedenlerle bağlantılı olarak açıklamaya çalışan görüşlere yer verilecek, ardından ekonomik kriz ve suç arasındaki ilişkiye değinilecektir. Ekonomik krizin beraberinde getirdiği en büyük sorunlardan birinin işsizlik olmasına rağmen, işsizliğin aynı zamanda krizlerden bağımsız olarak varlığını sürdüren bir sorun olması nedeniyle, işsizlik ve suç konusuna son kısımda ayrıca ayrıntılarıyla yer verilmeye çalışılacaktır.
