Two consecutive steroid psychosis cases examined at our chest clinic

Abstract
Corticosteroids have been regularly prescribed for almost fifty years to decrease inflammation in various diseases, such as pulmonary diseases, cancers, rheumatologic and dermatologic disorders. It has been stated in some cases presentations and some minor researches that corticosteroids have some psychiatric side effects, such as mania, depression, psychosis (hallucination, delucination etc.) following a short duration of therapy with these drug. Here, we present two steroid psychosis cases who were treated in our chest clinic consecutively.

Hemen hemen 50 yıldır, kortikosteroidler göğüs hastalıklarından romatolojiye, dermatolojiden kanser kemoterapisine kadar pekçok sistemik hastalıkta inflamasyonu azaltmak için rutin olarak reçete edilmektedir. Kortikosteroidlerin, tedavi alanına girmesinden çok kısa bir süre sonra olgu bildirileri ve çok ufak çalışmalar şeklinde mani, depresyon ve psikoz (halüsinasyonlar, delüsyonlar vb.) gibi psikiyatrik yan etkiler bildirilmeye başlanmıştır. Biz burada, göğüs kliniğinde 10 gün arayla tedavi gören 2 hastada ortaya çıkan steroid psikozu olgularını sunuyoruz.
