Abstract

The Marmaris peridotites derived from Neotethyan Ocean, are composed of mainly serpantinised harzburgite with minor dunite, and dykes of micronorite and diabase intruded all the units. The harzburgites include essentially olivine, orthopyroxene, minor serpantine, clinopyroxene, chromite, magnetite and secondary magnesite, while the dunites have olivine, orthopyroxene and opaque minerals. The micronorites contain labradorite, enstatite with minor diopside, actinolite, chlorite in an ophiolitic texture whereas the diabases include plagioclase, hornblend, diopside and accessory sphene, chlorite, magnetite and chromites. The serpantinites are composed of chrysotile, minor olivine, chromite and magnetites. The harzburgites include high MgO, Cr, Ni; low SİO2, A12O3, CaO, Rb, Sr; and slightly fractionated ($La_c/Lu_c$:1.6-2.6) rare earth element (REE) patterns in the level of chondrites while the dunites show similarity to the harzburgites in composition. The diabases have lower contents of K, Rb and high field strength elements (HFSE) than that of MORB, whereas the micronorites contain large ion lithophile elements and HFSE in the abundance of MORB. REE pattern of the vein rocks are almost flat ($La_c/Lu_c$: 0,55-0,96); more enriched than the harzburgites; and have positive Eu (Eu/Eu*: 1-1.45) anomaly indicating plagioclase accumulation. The harzburgites show similarities to Alpine type peridotites and depleted mantle. They were cut by vein rocks with affinity of "low-K tholeiites", which indicates that formation of the harzburgites could be related with subduction. Coherency in REE patterns of the harzburgite and veins rocks show that the diabase and micronorites could be formed from the harzburgites.
