Usability of GPS measurements in volume calculation compare to classical methods

Abstract
It is came across some problems on determination of excavation and filling volumes in most engineering project carried out on land. On the other hand, classical survey techniques are generally used for measurements required for volume computation. Nowadays, GPS technique becomes rapidly widespread measurement technique used with succès in many activies. In this research, it was studied how volume computation benefits from GPS survey technique. The results were interpreted comparing the volumes from classical and GPS measurements obtained in the chosen test area.
Özet
Araziye yönelik pek çok mühendislik projesinde kazı ve dolgu hacimlerinin belirlenmesi problemi ile karşılaşılır. Hacim hesabı için gerekli olan ölçmelerde ise genellikle klasik ölçme teknikleri kullanılır. Günümüzde kullanımı hızla yaygınlaşan GPS (Global Positioning System) tekniği ise birçok alanda başarı ile kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada GPS ölçü tekniğinden hacim hesaplarında nasıl yararlanabileceği araştırılmıştır. Seçilen bir test alanında klasik ve GPS ölçmelerinden yararlanarak hesaplanan hacimler karşılaştırılarak sonuçlar yorumlanmıştır.
