The bestproof of this is the studies of scientistswhoareopen to innovation. One of the mostimportant of thesewasRoger Bacon. Therefore, in thisperiodRoger Bacon wascalled “DoctorMirabilis” or “Perfect Doctor”. He was British Franciscanphilosopher and educational reformist. Roger Bacon is the forerunner of experimentalscience in the Middle Ages. He has worked in mathematics, astronomy, opticalchemistry and language. Bacon gaveimportance to the experimentalscience and he madeeffort on thissubject. Bacon sees the authority, the effect of tradition, the prejudices and the ignorance as the cause of humanignorance. Roger Bacon, whocloselyfollows the works of the Islamicworld, washighlyinfluencedbyfamousIslamicscholar, Ibn Sina. Roger Bacon has opened a newerafor Europe. Roger Bacon has an importantplace in the history of sciencewith his work and his ideas. Inthisworkwewilltry to explain the importance of Roger Bacon in the history of medievalEuropeanscience, how he is influencedby the Islamicworld, his conflictwith the Pope, and his studiesthathavegivenhim the title of “Perfect Teacher”.

XII. yüzyıl ile XIII. yüzyıl Orta Çağ Avrupası için bir yenileşme ve arayış çağıydı. Bu durum, her alanda hissedilmekteydi. Özellikle bilim ve teknoloji alanında daha somut idi. Bunun en iyi kanıtı da yeniliklere açık olan bilim adamlarının çalışmalarıdır. Bunların en önemlilerinden biri de Roger Bacon idi. Dolayısıyla bu dönemde Roger Bacon, “DoctorMirabilis” yani “Mükemmel Öğretmen” olarak adlandırılmıştır. İngiliz Fransiskenfiliozof ve eğitim reformcusudur. Roger Bacon, deneysel bilimin Orta Çağdaki öncüsüdür. Matematik, astronomi, optik kimya ve dil alanlarında çalışmıştır. Roger Bacon deneysel bilime önem vermiş ve bu konuda çok çaba göstermiştir. Bacon, bilgisizlik nedenini ise otorite, gelenekçilik,önyargılar ve cehaletolarak görmektedir. İslam dünyasındaki çalışmaları da yakından takip eden Roger Bacon, ünlü İslam bilgini İbn Sina’dan oldukça etkilenmiştir. Roger Bacon, Avrupa için yeni bir dönemin açılmasını sağlamıştır. Roger Bacon, çalışmaları ve fikirleriyle bilim tarihinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu çalışmada ise Roger Bacon’ın Orta Çağ Avrupa bilim tarihindeki önemini, İslam dünyasından ne kadar etkilendiğini, Papa ile olan çatışmalarını ve de bilim tarihine damga vuran ona “Mükemmel” sıfatını kazandıran çalışmalarını anlatmaya çalışacağız.
