A study on some biological peculiarities of the picarel (Spicara flexuosa Rafinesque,1810) distributed in the bay of Izmir (Aegean Sea)

Abstract

A study on some biological peculiarities of the Picarel (Spicara flexuosa Rafinesque, 1810) distributed in the bay of Izmir (Aegean Sea). In this study, total 412 fish are obtained during the area researches between the dates June 1998 and March 1999 to examine the biologic peculiarities of the population of S. flexuosa which is found in Izmir Bay. In this pointed the fish which was examined presented the age group I - IV. Females and males constitute 41,75 % and 58,25 % of the population respectively. It is found that in S .flexuosa minimum and maximum fork lenght is 9,20 - 15,50 cm; in the examination of weight minimum and maximum which are found as 11,04 - 55,06 g. The von Bertalanffy growth formula was estimated for males ( $L_\infty$ = 18,25 cm, k = 0,247, to =-2,626; $W_\infty$ = 78,92 g), females ( $L_\infty$ = 17,11 cm, k = 0,314, $t_o$ =-0,636; $W_\infty$ = 75,25 g) and the sexes combined (L*. = 19,45 cm, k = 0,205, $t_o$ —0,399; $W_\infty$ = 78,31 g). Length-weight relationship was calculated as W = 0,0411* $L^{2.594}$ (r= 0,92) and average condition factor has calculated as K = 1,255 for all individuals.

Bu çalışmada, Izmir Körfezi'nde dağılım gösteren S. flexuosa populasyonunun, bazı biyolojik özelliklerini belirlemek amacıyla, Haziran 1998 - Mart 1999 tarihleri arasındaki arazi çalışmaları sırasında toplam 412 adet balık elde edilmiş ve incelenmiştir. İncelenen balıkların I - IV yaş grubunu temsil ettikleri saptanmıştır. Populasyonun %41,75'i dişi, %58,25'i erkek bireylerden oluşmaktadır, izmarit balığında (dişi+erkek) minimum-maksimum çatal boy değerleri 9,20 -15,50 cm; ağırlık değerleri ise 11,04 - 55,06 g olarak tespit edilmiştir, von Bertalanffy büyüme eşitlikleri erkek ( $L_\infty$ = 18,25 cm, k = 0,247, $t_o$= -2,626; $W_\infty$ = 78,92 g), dişi (U = 17,11 cm, k = 0,314, $t_o$ =-0,636; $W_\infty$ = 75,25 g) ve tüm (U = 19,45 cm, k = 0,205, to =-0,399; $W_\infty$ = 78,31 g) bireyler için hesaplanmıştır. Tüm bireylerin boy-ağırlık ilişkisi denklemi ; W = 0,0411 * $L^{2.594}$ (r= 0,92) , ortalama kondisyon faktörü değeri ise K = 1,255 olarak hesaplanmıştır.
