Abstract

In this study, seasonal, host fish size and sex related Neascus brevicaudatus parasite of Esox lucius inhabiting freshwaters in Lake Karamık was investigated. Neascus brevicaudatus in taxon Platyhelminthes was recorded in eyes aqueous humor of the host fishes: Infection prevalence %52.5; mean parasite number and standart deviation 16.9±25.1 were determined. Throughout the entire research period, infection of Neascus brevicaudatus was found in all seasons, but its infection value increased remarkably in spring and winter. The parasite species existed in all host fish age groups, II, III and IV. The prevalence reached its maximum level in the biggest host fish age group, IV. The intensity of the parasite was higher on small and medium host fish specimens than bigger ones. Intensity of the infection was higher in male than female fishes, while maximum intensity was recorded in female. Other hand, the species is new record for the present study area. Anatomic and morphologic features of the parasitic species were determined. In addition, minimum-maximum and mean intensity of parasites and infection prevalence were determined according to the seasonal data, size and sex distribution of the host fish.
