The importance of labial biopsy in Sjogren's syndrome

Abstract

Biopsy specimens taken from the various parts of the body is important for an accurate diagnosis in connective tissue diseases, especially in Sjogren's syndrome. Labial biopsy in Sjogren's syndrome is easy to perform and the re¬sults obtained from the hispopathological investigation help the diagnosis. In this study, labial biopsies were obtained from the lower lips of 20 patients and the minor salivary glands were histopathologically investigated. In¬filtration of lymphocyte and plasma cells showing follicular formation or diffuse infiltration, epithelial and myoepithelial proliferation in ductus and aciner cells, and thickening of the basal lamina were observed.

Özet

Konnektif doku hastalıklarında ve özellikle Sjögren sendromunda vücudun değişik yerlerinden alınan biyopsi örnekleri tanıya yardımcı ol¬mak açısından önemlidir. Sjögren sendromunda labial biyopsi uygulaması kolay bir yöntemdir ve histopatoloji sonuçları tanıya yardımcıdır. Bu araştırmada Sjögren sendromu yönünden takibi yapılan 20 hastanın alt du-daklarında~n biyopsi aldık. Elde edilen minor tükrük bezlerinin his-topatolojik incelemeleri yapıldı. Diffuz dağılan veya foliküller oluşturan lenfosit ve plazma hücresi infiltra'syonu, duktuslarda ve asinislerde, epitel, myoepitel proliferasyonu ve yer yer bazal laminanın kalınlaşmış olduğu gözlendi.
