Abstract
Objectives: We investigated the significance of AST/ALT levels in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients infected with hepatitis C virus. Patients and Methods: AST/ALT levels were measured in three groups of patients (n=80; 47 males, 33 females): hemodialysis patients with ESRD and positive HCV RNA (n=21, mean age 45 years), hemodialysis patients with ESRD and negative HCV RNA (n=35, mean age 45 years), and 24 patients with positive HCV RNA titers (mean age 42 years). Results: AST/ALT levels in the first two groups were found in normal limits, whereas serum AST/ALT levels were significantly higher in the third group (p<0.001). Conclusion: The study showed that liver enzymes in HCV-positive hemodialysis patients were lower than those of other groups.
Özet
Amaç: Son evre renal hastalık nedeniyle hemodiyaliz tedavisi gören HCV-pozitif olgularda AST /ALT düzeyinin önemi araştırıldı. Hastalar ve Yöntemler: Üç grup hastada (n=80; 47 erkek, 33 kadın) AST/ALT düzeyleri ölçüldü: Hemodiyalize giren ve kronik renal yetmezlikli HCV RNA-pozitif 21 hasta (ort. yaş 45), hemodiyalize giren ve kronik renal yetmezlikli HCV RNA-negatif 35 hasta (ort. yaş 45) ve hemodiyalize girmeyen HCV RNA-pozitif 24 hasta (ort. yaş 42). Bulgular: İlk iki hasta grubunda serum ALT/AST düzeyleri normal sınırlarda bulundu. Üçüncü hasta grubunda ise anlamlı derecede yüksek bulundu (p<0.001). Sonuç: Hemodiyalize giren HCV-pozitif hastalarda karaciğer enzimleri diğer gruplardan daha düşük seyretmektedir
