General characteristics of the earth filling materials of the Cataltepe Dam-I

Abstract

In this study, the earth fill materials, which will be used in the construction of the Cataltepe Dam as core filling stuff, were examined from the geotechnical point of view. The study was carried out on disturbed samples obtained with respect to the conditions given in TS 1901 from pre-determined material fields by State Hydraulic Works (DSİ). Additionally to improve reliability of the knowledge about material fields, the results of tests conducted by DSÎ were utilised too. Laboratory tests showed that samples are Kaolinité and tllite group of clay minerals. Permeability coefficient ranges between $1O^{-7}$ and $10^{-8}$ which is practically assumed to be impermeable. Activity degree obtained by means of plasticity index and ratio of the clay, shows that these materials are eligible to use in core filling of the dam.

Bu çalışmada Çataltepe barajının çekirdek dolgusunda kullanılacak olan kil dolgu malzemeleri geoteknik açıdan incelenmiştir. DSl Bölge Müdürlüğünce saptanan malzeme sahalarından TS 1901'e göre alınan örselenmiş örnekler üzerinde çalışılmıştır. Malzeme sahaları hakkında daha güvenilir bilgi edinmek amacıyla Devlet Su İşleri'nce yapılan testler de bu çalışmada kullanılmıştır. Labaratuarlarda testlere tabi tutulan örneklerin Kaolinit ve İllit gurubu kil mineralleri olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Geçirgenlik katsayılarının $1O^{-7}$ ile $10^{-8}$ mertebelerinde değiştiği geçirimsiz veya pratik olarak geçirimsiz oldukları belirlenmiştir. Plastisite indeksi ve % kil miktarı oranları ile elde edilen aktivite değerlerinden normal aktif kil mineralleri oldukları ve malzemelerin geçirimsiz çekirdek dolguda kullanılabilir özellikte oldukları tespit edilmiştir.
