Abstract
There are important developments occurring in the world and poverty is increasing both in countries and within the same country between different regions. Today poverty is the greatest cause of illness and death in the world. Poverty not only has a lasting effect on health, but even when itjs relieved the effects last a lifetime and are passed on to future generations in a vicious cycle. The effects of poverty begins in the mother's womb and primarily children and women are affected by it. Poverty is increased when the poor are in poor health, and those who are living on the edge fall into poverty. There are innumerable negative health effects from poverty. Some of these health problems are protein and energy malnutrition, health problems related to insufficient water and sanitation, problems that arise from unsafe sexual relationships, diseases related to excessive alcohol and cigarette use, obesity related to inadequate and unbalanced nutrition and the problems it creates, and health problems related to urban and domestic air pollution. Because of the poverty has a direct effect on the health of individuals and families nurses are concerned with preventions to these problems. Early prevention is an important way to keep a family whole and healthy. As with other situations, nurses have an important role in solving the health problems of poor and homeless families and in decreasing the effects of poverty on the health of families.
