Ozone gas, it's different functions and effects

Abstract

Ozone which is an explosive and toxic gas has different ecological duties in tropospher and stratospher layers of the athmosphere. Detrimental ultraviole rays coming from the sun are absorbed by stratospheric ozone. This function is absolutely important for the earth. On the other hand tropospheric ozone is called as an environmental pollutant due to man's activities.Depletion in the Ozone layer was to be put in agenda, due to the hole over Antarctica which was detected in 1987. could be resulted in important effects on the health of the human beings and the all natural life. The most important factor in the depletion of the ozone layer is production of chlorofluorocarbon gases.Despite the studies, such as mainly Montreal Protocol, had been shown a big improvement, the depletion in ozone layer had been continuing. Since the subject is so serious, both the goverments and individuals should spend bigeffort on this problem.

Ozon patlayıcı ve zehirli bir gaz olup, atmosferin troposfer ve stratosfer tabakalarında farklı ekolojik işlevlerle yer alır. Stratosferik ozon güneşten gelen zararlı ultraviyole ışınlarını soğurarak, canlı küre açısından önemli bir fonksiyon üstlenir. Tropoşferik ozon ise insan faaliyetleri ile ortaya çıkan bir çevre kirleticisidir. 1987 yılında Antarktika üzerinde fark edilen delik nedeniyle gündeme gelen ozon tabakasında incelmenin insan ve canlıların sağlığı yönünden önemli sonuçları olabilir. Ozon tabakasının incelmesinde etkili olan en önemli faktör kloroflorokarbon gazlarının üretimidir. Konu ile ilgili Montreal protokolü başta olmak üzere yürütülen çalışmalar sevindirici olmakla birlikte, ozon tabakasında incelmenin halen devam ettiği saplanmıştır. Konu ciddiyeti nedeniyle gerek hükümetlerin gerek bireylerin bu konudaki yoğun çabalarını hak etmektedir.
