Poverty and health services utilization

Abstract

Poverty can be seen as a disease that saps people's energy dehumanizes them and creates a sense of helplessness and loss of control over their lives. In more concrete terms, poverty is usually defined as the situation in which people cannot meet their basic needs due to income insufficiency. The aim of this paper is to analyze the level of health services utilization of the poor and factors affecting their health services utilization via interpreting some different country studies. In the conclusion of the study, it was recommended that interventions about poverty reduction should be thought with the improvement of health status of the poor and public and private policy makers should focus on building these interventions by providing sectoral collaboration.

Özet

Yoksulluk insanların enerjilerini azaltan, insanlıktan uzaklaştıran ve çaresizlik ve hayatlarının kontrolünü kaybetme hissi yaratan bir hastalık olarak görülebilir. Daha somut bir ifadeyle, yoksulluk genellikle insanların gelir yetersizliği nedeniyle temel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayamadığı durum olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı farklı ülkelerde yapılmış çalışmalar değerlendirilerek, yoksul olarak nitelendirilen bireylerin sağlık hizmeti kullanım düzeylerinin ve sağlık hizmeti kullanımlarını etkileyen faktörlerin incelenilmesidir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, yoksulluğu azaltma ve yoksulların sağlık düzeyini yükseltmeye yönelik müdahalelerin birlikte düşünülmesi ve geliştirilecek müdahalelere kamu ve özel sektör politika yapıcılarının işbirliği içerisinde odaklaşmaları önerilmektedir.
