Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Yaşlılara Karşı Tutumlarının Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Aim: This study was planned as a descriptive type in order to determine the attitudes of university students towards elderly. Material and Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 137 final year university students. The data were collected by questionnaire form and Kogan Attitudes towards Aging scale. Results: 60.6% of the students were female, 80.3% had a nuclear family, 55.5% lived in the urban area before coming to the university and 50.4% lived in the same household with the elderly. It was found that gender, type of family, place of residence and live in the same house with the elderly parent did not affect the attitude towards aging (p>0.05). After establishing a family, the proportion of students who wanted to live with their parents was 50.4%, which was higher than those who did not want to live with their parents (p<0.05). Conclusion:University students’ attitudes towards aging are generally positive. It is anticipated that students who do not want to live with their parents will need institutional or home care services in the care of their parents in the coming years.

Amaç: Bu çalışma, üniversite öğrencilerinin yaşlılara karşı tutumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla tanımlayıcı tipte planlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemini 137 son sınıf üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Veri toplamada anket formu ve Kogan Yaşlılara Karşı Tutum Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %60.6’sı kadın, %80.3’ü çekirdek aileye sahip, %55.5’i üniversiteden önce kentsel alanda, %50.4’ü yaşlı ile aynı evde yaşamıştır. Cinsiyet, aile tipi, yaşanılan yer ve bir yaşlı ile aynı evde yaşama durumunun yaşlılara karşı tutumu etkilemediği bulunmuştur (p>0.05). Aile kurduktan sonra ebeveyni ile birlikte yaşamak isteyen öğrencilerin oranı %50.4’tür ve bu grubun ebeveyni ile birlikte yaşamak istemeyenlere göre yaşlılara karşı tutum puanının daha yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır (p<0.05). Sonuç: Üniversite öğrencilerinin yaşlılara karşı tutumu genel olarak olumludur. Ebeveyni ile birlikte yaşamak istemeyen öğrencilerin gelecek yıllarda ebeveynlerinin bakımında kurumsal ya da evde bakım hizmetlerine ihtiyaç duyacağı öngörülmektedir.
