The evaluation of behaviours of doctors and nurses towards the patients in Yozgat State Hospital

Abstract
The aim of this study is to shed light to the efforts of patient care quality and increasing satisfaction of the interested people by determining the behaviors of doctors and nurses towards the patients in state hospitals which give secondary health services. Data have been collected by applying a questionnaire by an interviewer to the all the patients (n=185) staying at least one night in Yozgat State Hospital between the dates April 16 and May 5 2001 and the accompanier of the patients who cannot answer (n=46). 78,4% of the patients (n=185) said that they had consulted the doctor in his private office before coming to hospital and 75,9 of them and 57,5% of the others who do not have private consulta-tion, stated that they were pleased with the interest of the doctor. 0,9% of the questionnaires knew the patients' rights, 84% and 76,7% of them stated that the doctors, and nurses behaved generally equal respectively. 78% and 42,9% the patients stated that doctors and nurses say greeted them while entering the patients room; 43,7% them thought that nurses are generally cheerful during the care and the treatment sessions; 74,6% of them said that nurses gave answers to their questions normally, 66,7% stat-ed that nurses helped when they are called during the nights. 32,9% of the participants stated that nurses generally explained everything about the treatment and care before starting; 1,7% of nurses made them do mouth, body, hair, hand, foot, skin etc. care or they helped them personally; 8,2% of nurses were interested in the patients' food; 1,3% of nurses helped the patients eat their food; 1,7% of nurses were interested in whether they excrete and urinate or not, and 3,5% of them were interested in the patients ' clothing and their cleaning. In conclusion, in order to increase the satisfaction of the patients, it should be made an effort for patients to be able to hospitalize without private doctor 's consulting and to be treated well by the nurses.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ikinci basamak tedavi edici sağlık hizmeti sunan Devlet hastanelerindeki doktor ve hemşirelerin yatan hastalara karşı nasıl davrandığını tespit ederek, ilgililerin hasta bakım kalitesi ve memnuniyetini artırma çabalarına ışık tutmaktır. Veriler, Yozgat Devlet Hastanesi'nde 16 Nisan-4 Mayıs 2001 tarihleri arasında en az bir gece hastanede yatan tüm hastalar (n=185) ile soruları cevaplayamayacak durumda olan hastaların refakatçilerinden (n=46) görüşmeci aracılığıyla anket uygulanarak elde edildi. Hastaların (n=185) %78,4'ü hastaneye yatmadan önce doktorun özel muayenehanesinde muayene olduğunu ve bunların %75,9'u, özel muayene olmayanların %57,5 'i doktorun ilgisinden memnun olduklarını ifade etti.. Araştırmaya katılanların (n=231) %0,9'u hasta haklarını bildiğini; %84'ü doktorların, %76,7'si hemşirelerin hastalara genellikle eşit davrandığını; %78'i dok-torların, %42,9'u hemşirelerin, hasta odalarına girerken selam verdiğini; %43,7'si hemşirelerin bakım ve tedavi yaparken genellikle güler yüzlü olduğunu; %74,6'sı hemşirelerin sorulara normal bir şekilde cevap verdiğini; %66,7'si hemşirelerin geceleri çağrıldığında hemen yardıma geldiğini ifade etti. Araştırmaya katılanların %32,9'u hemşirelerin tedavi ve bakım yapmadan önce yapacağı işlem hakkında genellikle açıklama yaptığını; %1,7'si ağız, vücut, saç, el, ayak, cilt, vb bakımı yap-tığım veya yapamayanlara yaptırdığını;, %8,2'si hastaların yemeğini yiyip yemediğiyle ilgilendiğini; %1,3 'ü yemeğini yiye-meyen hastalara yemeleri için bazen yardım ettiklerini; %1,7'si hastaların idrar ve gaitasını yapıp yapmadığıyla ilgilendiğini ve %3,5'i hastaların çamaşırlarının temizliği ve değiştirilmesi ile ilgilendiklerini ifade ettiler. Sonuçta; hasta tatminini artırmak için; hastaların doktora özel muayene olmadan hastaneye yatabilmelerini ve hemşirelerin hastalarla daha iyi bir şekilde ilgilenmelerini sağlamak için çaba gösterilmesinin gerektiği kanısına varıldı.
