Attitudes of teachers in primary schools in Manisa about sexual education

Manisa ilköğretim okullarında görev yapan öğretmenlerin cinsel eğitim ile ilgili tutumları

Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the attitudes of the teachers about student's being given sexual education in primary schools in Manisa. The research was applied on 360 teachers (n=360) who accepted to join and who were selected from the school list randomly. Data were selected by means of questionnaire forms consisting 16 questions and being prepared by researchers and an questionnaire consisting 20 questions applied by Kömürcü (1990) in a research of him and by means of a Likert type "Sexual Education in Primary Schools (ICEB)" question form being composed by adding 13 new questions in March-May 2005. The minimum point to be get in the questionnaire is 33 and the maximum is 165. 84,7 % of the teachers joining in the research has never been given any sexual education in their life. 41,9% of the teachers think that the children will have bad experiences if they would lake genital education due to their being young and %79,4 of then don' t think that the genital issues shouldn't be thought by experienced staff in primary schools. Result: As a result of this research it was determined that teachers generally thinks negatively about giving sexual education to the students but on the other hand was determined that male teachers has more positive attitude about this subject.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Manisa il merkezindeki ilköğretim okullarında görev yapan öğretmenlerin, öğrencilere cinsel eğitim verilmesi ile ilgili tutumlarının incelenmesidir. Çalışma, sıralı okul listesinden basit rasgele örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen okullardan araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden n=360 öğretmen üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Veriler literatür doğrultusunda araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan 16 soruluk anket formu ve Kömürcü (1990) tarafından yapılan bir çalışmada kullanılan 20 maddelik soru formuna; 13 yeni maddenin eklenmesi ile oluşturulan cinsel eğitime yönelik görüşlerin yer aldığı 33 maddelik beşli likert tipi "İlköğretimde Cinsel Eğitime Bakış (İCER) Soru Formu " ile, Mart-Mayıs 2005 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştın Soru Formundan alınabilecek toplam minimum puan 33, maksimum puan 165'tir. Araştırmaya katılan öğretmenlerin %84,7'si yaşamları boyunca cinsel eğitim konusunda hiç bilgi almadığını belirtmişlerdir. Öğretmenlerin % 41,9'unun "cinsel konular ilkokullarda öğretilirse, çocuklar çok genç olduklarından daha fazla bilgiye sahip olarak olumsuz deneyimler yaşarlar" maddesine katıldıkları ve %79,4'iinün "cinsel konular ilkokullarda öğretilirken hu konular konunun uzmanı sağlık personeli tarafından anlatılmalıdır "maddesine katılmadığı belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Öğretmenlerin öğrencilere cinsel eğitim verilmesi ile ilgili genelde olumsuz tutuma sahip oldukları, ancak erkek öğretmenlerin, kadın öğretmenlere göre daha olumlu tutum sergiledikleri saptanmıştır.
