A research on the idea of social workers about the bases of strenghts perspective

Sosyal hizmetler uzmanlarının güçler perspektifinin temellerine ilişkin düşünceleri üzerine bir araştırma

Abstract

The strengths perspective that has taken greater attention nowadays posits that the focus of social work intervention should be the strengths and resources of the clients rather than their problems and pathologies. Strengths perspective which is among the empowerment based approaches has been involved in the agenda of Hacettepe University School of Social Work as a result of the curriculum change in the term 2001-2002. The aim of this research is to examine the ideas of social workers about strengths perspective who were graduated from H. Ü. School of Social Work before 2000-2001. According to the findings of the study, nearly 75% of the social workers don't perceive the reasons of the client problems as individual deficiency and incapability and also see the focus of professional helping process as the strenghts and resources of their clients. On the other hand, nearly more than half of the social workers don't perceive themselves as equal partners with their clients and don't agree with the idea that clients know the best in his/her life.

Özet

Sosyal hizmet literatüründe şimdilerde üzerinde önemle durulan güçler perspektifi, (strenghts perspective) problem ve patolojilerden ziyade insanların güçleri ve kaynaklarının sosyal hizmette yardım sürecinin odağı olması gerektiğini savunmaktadır. Güçlendirme temelli yaklaşımlardan olan güçler perspektifi Hacettepe Üniversitesi Sosyal Hizmetler Yüksekokulu'nun gündemine 2000-2001 öğretim yılında bir uygulama modeli olarak genelci yaklaşımı benimsenmesi ile girmiştir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, 2000-2001 öğretim yılından önce mezun olan SHU'larının genelci sosyal hizmetin önemli bir yaklaşımı olan güçler perspektifine ilişkin düşüncelerini incelemektir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, SHU'larının yaklaşık dörtte üçünün müracaatçı problemlerinin nedeni olarak bireysel yetersizlik ve yeteneksizliği görmedikleri ve mesleki yardım sürecinin odağı olarak müracaatçının güç ve kaynaklarım gördükleri ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak, SHU'larının yarısından biraz fazlası mesleki ilişkide müracaatçıları ile kendilerini eşit görmemekte ve müracaatçının yaşamında en iyiyi müracaatçının bilmesi düşüncesine katılmamaktadır.
