The opinion of the university students about marriage and mate selection

Abstract

This research was planned and carried out as descriptive on 410 students at the Atatürk university in the education year of 2002-2003 in order to determine the views at the university students about marriage and partner selection for gathering data a questionnaire form, including open ended and multiple choice questions questions and which would determine the views of students taking part in the poll, about marriage and partner selection was used. It was determined that most of the students having been included in the questionnaire see the ages between 25 and 28 as appropriate for marriage. The students in all groups preferred their would be partner to share the some ideologies wiht them and be honest and mature while half of the students (%56.6) objected to the marriage Thorough matchmaking, a goal many of them (%83.7) considered a marriage filled with love. It was found that females in comparison with males prefer more a marriage filled with love and believe more in the propriety of zodiacs at the marriages and demand more a health check of their partners before marriage and males desire the authority of the marriage to be in their hands with a greater ratio. It was seen that students of social sciences look more positive towards marriage than those of natural and applied sciences. It was also found that students coming from Blacksea region believe more that cultural differences will be a problem in marriages and students coming from Eastern and Sotheastern Turkey prefer less a marriage filled wiht love. As a result it can be suggested that general in our countury the problems of the youth be enlightened by enlarging the sphere of the researches examining their attitudes towards marriage and they be given professional marriage and family consultant services.

Bu araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinin eş seçimine ve evliliğe yönelik görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla 2002-2003 öğretim yılında Atatürk Üniversitesinde toplam 410 öğrenci üzerinde tanımlayıcı olarak planlanmış ve yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında; araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin eş seçimi ve evliliğe ilişkin görüşlerini belirleyecek açık uçlu ve çoktan seçmeli soruları içeren bir anket formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamına alınan gençlerin çoğunluğunun evlilik yaşı olarak 25-28 yaş arasını uygun buldukları belirlenmiştir. Tüm gruplardaki öğrenciler, gelecekteki eşlerinin “kendileriyle benzer ideolojiye sahip, dürüst ve olgun” kişilikte bireyler olmasını tercih etmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin yarısı (%56,6) görücü usulüyle evliliğe karşı iken büyük bir çoğunluğu (%83,7) aşk evliliğini düşünmektedir. Kızların erkeklere göre aşk evliliğini daha çok tercih ettiği, evlilikte burç uyumuna daha fazla inandıkları ve evlilik öncesi eşlerinin sağlık kontrolünden geçmesini istedikleri, erkek öğrencilerin ise evlilikte otoritenin erkekte olmasını yüksek oranda istedikleri bulunmuştur. Sosyal bilimlerde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin, sağlık ve fen bilimlerindeki öğrencilere göre evliliğe ilişkin daha olumlu görüşlere sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir. Karadeniz bölgesinden gelen gençlerin evlilikte kültür farklılığının sorun oluşturacağına daha fazla inandıkları, Doğu-Güneydoğu Anadolu’da yaşayan gençlerin ise aşk evliliğini daha düşük oranda tercih ettikleri saptanmıştır. Sonuç olarak ülkemiz genelinde gençlerin evlilik tutumlarını inceleyen araştırmaların genişletilerek sorunlarının aydınlatılması ve gençlere profesyoneller tarafından evlilik ve aile danışmanlık hizmetlerinin verilmesi önerilebilir.
