Abstract
Cancer is an imporant public health problem. It is third leading cause of death in the world today. The most important factors that determine the epidemiology of cancer are geographic disribution, gender, age, socio-economic status and job. The most common risk factors for cancer are tobacco use, diet, obesity, infections, ionizing radiation, ultraviolet radiation, chemical/occupational carcinogens, environmental factors, sexual and reproductive health factors and genetic factors. Primary prevention of cancer includes avoiding the risk factors. Early detection is important, and with effective therapy, they are the elements of secondary prevention. The tertiary prevention includes reducing the complications and medical and social rehabilitation.
