The Effect of Afl ibercept on Ganglion Cell Complex in Neovascular AgeRelated Macular Degeneration

Abstract

Purpose:To evaluate ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who underwent afl ibercept injection by using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods:The study included 28 eyes of 28 patients with neovascular AMD who had at least 6 months of follow-up following 3-dose antiVEGF injection. Central macular thickness (CMT) and GCC thickness were evaluated with SD-OCT. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure, CMT, GCC thickness were recorded at the fi rst month, 3 months and 6 months after the injection. Results:The mean age of the patients was 71.9 ± 7.2 (55-82) years. Best corrected visual acuity (logMAR) before injection was 0.90±0.24, at third month it was 0.32±0.22 idi (p=0.005). Before injection the mean CMT was 383.75 ± 28.6 μm, it was 267 ± 67 μm in the 6th month (p = 0.001). Mean GCC thickness was 93.20 μm before injection and 92.56 μm at 6 months. (P = 0.250) Conclusion: It was found that intravitreal Afl ibercept injection did not have a signifi cant effect on GCC thickness after 6 months of follow-up. Afl ibercept is an effective, reliable treatment option in the treatment of neovascular AMD.

Amaç: Afl ibercept injeksiyonu uygulanan neovasküler yaşa bağlı makula dejenerasyonu (YBMD) hastalarında optik koherens tomografi (OKT) ile gangliyon hücre kompleksini (GHK) değerlendirmek. Gereç-Yöntem: Çalışmaya dahil edilme kriterlerine uyan, 3 doz yükleme anti-VEGF enjeksiyonu sonrası hastalığın stabil seyrettiği, enjeksiyon sonrası en az 6 aylık takipleri olan neovasküler YBMD tanılı 28 hastanın 28 gözü çalışmaya dahil edildi. Santral makula kalınlığı (SMK), GHK kalınlığı SD-OKT ile değerlendirildi. Hastaların enjeksiyon sonrası 1. ay, 3. ay ve 6. ayda görme keskinliği, Göz içi basıncı, SMK, GHK kalınlığı kaydedildi. Bulgular: Hastaların ortalama yaşı 71.9±7.2 (55-82) idi. En iyi düzeltilmiş görme keskinliği (logMAR) enjeksiyon öncesi; 0.90±0.24 iken, yükleme sonrası 0.32±0.22 idi.(p=0.005) Enjeksiyon öncesi SMK 383.75±28.6 μm iken, 6.ayda 267±67 μm idi.(p=0.001) Ortalama GHK kalınlığı enjeksiyon öncesi 93.20 μm iken, 6.
