Opinions of Student Nurses Practicing in Clinics of a University Hospital about their Fields of Application

Abstract
AIM: The research was carried out in order to plan the activities necessary for the student nurses who perform clinical applications in the institution, to determine whether they experienced problems in the clinic and if they did, to determine the causes of these problems and to take corrective measures. METHODS: A questionnaire form prepared by the researchers was applied to nursing undergraduate students who were practicing in clinics of a university hospital during the summer terms of 2011, 2012 and 2013. The sample of the research consisted of 657 students. The data of the survey were presented as mean, standard deviation, and percentile. RESULTS: A 37.9% of the students practiced in clinics in 2012 and 54% of them practiced in surgical clinics. “The work intensity of nurses is decreasing thanks to the nursing students during their internship days” had the highest mean score (4.15±0.95). The lowest mean score (1.72±1.06) belonged to the statement: “The presence of the students restricts the time of nurses allocated to the patient” in the clinic. CONCLUSION: According to the answers given by the students, the number of students who come to practice nursing should be appropriate, and other employees should be informed about the students, and more information, and guidance about the clinical practice should be provided to the students.

AMAÇ: Araştırma, kurumda klinik uygulama yapan öğrenci hemşirelerin klinik alanda sorun yaşayıp yaşamadıklarının belirlenmesi, yaşıyorlarsa bu sorunların nedenlerinin belirlenerek düzeltici önlemlerin alınabilmesi için gerekli faaliyetlerin planlanması amacıyla yapılmıştır. YÖNTEM: Çalışma, bir üniversite hastanesinde 2011, 2012 ve 2013 yılı yaz döneminde klinik uygulama yapan hemşirelik lisans öğrencilerine, araştırmacıların hazırladığı anket formu kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 657 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri, ortalama, standart sapma, yüzdeleme olarak sunulmuştur. BULGULAR: Öğrencilerin %37,9’u 2012 yılında, %54’ü cerrahi kliniklerde uygulama yapmıştır. “Hemşirelerin iş yoğunluğu, öğrenci hemşirelerin staj günlerinde öğrencilerin desteğiyle azalmaktadır.” söylemi en yüksek ortalamaya (4,15±0,095) sahip iken, en düşük ortalama ise “Öğrencilerin varlığı klinikteki hemşirelerin hastaya ayırdığı zamanı kısıtlamaktadır.” söylemi olmuştur (1,72±1,06). SONUÇ: Öğrencilerin verdiği yanıtlara göre uygulamaya gelen öğrencilerin uygun sayıda olması, diğer çalışanların öğrenciler hakkında bilgilendirilmesi, daha fazla klinik tanıtım ve rehberlik sağlanması gerekmektedir.
