Abstract
Background: The purpose of this in vitro study is to evaluate the effect on the microleakage of heat application in different types of restorative glass ionomer cements. Methods: For the study, standard class V cavities (4X2X2 mm) were prepared on both buccal and lingual / palatal surfaces of a total of 112 non-carious decidious second molar teeth and restorations were made with four different types of restorative glass ionomer cements [conventional glass ionomer (GC Fuji IX), resin modified glass ionomer (GC Fuji II LC), high viscosity glass ionomer (GC EQUIA Fil) and glass carbomer (GCP Glass Fill)]. Each restorative glass ionomer cement was divided into 4 groups (control, 20 s, 40 s and 60 s heat application) acording to heat application. Following thermal cycling, the teeth were subjected to routine dye and cross-sectional procedures and images were taken under stereomicroscope. Microleakage assessment was measured in millimeters by an image analysis program (ImageJ). Statistical analyzes were performed with Kruskal-Wallis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: In all restorative glass ionomers, microleakage higher than the occlusal region in the gingival region was detected (p 0.05). When the average microleakage values of each restorative glass ionomer according to heat application are compared, there was no statistically significant difference in both occlusal and gingival regions (p>0.05). However, a significantly decrease in microleakage values compared to the control group was observed when 60s heat application in all other restorative glass ionomers except for the glass carbomer (GCP Glass Fill) glass in the occlusal region and the high viscous glass ionomer (GC EQUIA Fil) in the gingival region (p<0.05). Conclusion: Heat application in restorative glass ionomer cements used in the study reduced microleakage even though there was no statistically significant difference.
Özet
Amaç: Bu in vitro çalışmanın amacı, farklı tipteki restoratif cam iyonomer simanlara ısı uygulanmasının mikrosızıntı üzerine etkisini değerlendirmektir.
