NEW STYLE IN GRAPHIC DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PROCESS: FLAT DESIGN

Abstract

Graphic design has continued to exist with different styles and practices from modern art to the present and has been influenced by the movements such as Cubism, Futurism, Dada, De Stijl, Suprematism, Constructivism and Pop Art that emerged in the early 20th century. In addition, social transformation and technological development processes have also influenced graphic design studies. On the other hand, with the advancement of technology and the spread of internet, mobile devices have multiplied and have taken their place in the daily lives of people. Accordingly, people have faced the design of these applications used in smartphones and tablets. In this research, flat design style was examined. In the research conducted with the literature review, the topic of style in the development process of graphic design was examined; In addition, the effects of modern art movements on graphic design were evaluated. As a result of the research, it is seen that graphic design has developed new design styles within the framework of art understanding and technological opportunities of the period. In recent years, it has been determined that many other companies, especially Microsoft and Apple, use flat design style in their operating systems and corporate web pages.

Grafik tasarım, modern sanattan günümüze kadar farklı üslup ve uygulamalarla varlığını sürdürmüştür ve 20. yy’ın başlarında ortaya çıkan Kübizm, Fütürizm, Dada, De Stijl, Süprematizm, Konstrüktivizm, Pop Art gibi akımlardan etkilenmiştir. Bununla birlikte toplumsal dönüşüm ve teknolojik gelişim süreçleri de grafik tasarım çalışmalarını etkisi altına almıştır. Öte yandan teknolojinin ilerlemesi ve internetin yaygınlaşması ile mobil aygıtlar çoğalmış ve insanların günlük hayatlarında yerlerini almıştır. Buna bağlı olarak, akıllı telefonlar ve tabletlerde kullanılan uygulamaların arayüz tasarımları “flat tasarım” olarak gündelik hayata çok hızlı bir şekilde dahil olmuştur. Bu araştırmada, flat tasarım üslubu incelenmiştir. Literatür taraması ile yapılan araştırmada modern sanat akımlarının grafik tasarımdaki etkileri üzerine değerlendirilmeler yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak; dönemin sanat anlayışı ve teknolojik olanakları çerçevesinde yeni tasarım üsluplarının geliştiği görülmektedir. Son yıllarda başta Microsoft ve Apple olmak üzere diğer pek çok firmanın işletim sistemlerinde ve kurumsal web sayfalarında flat tasarım üslubunu kullandıkları ve bu yönde bir eğilim olduğu saptanmıştır.
