DIAGNOSIS OF CHRONIC OSTEOMYELITIS AND VALUE OF MEDICAL-SURGICAL TREATMENT COMBINATION

Abstract

Osteomyelitis is one of the most important problems in orthopaedics and remains being problemdespite improvements in treatment modalities. In investigating the treatment modalities and theirefficacies, we have noticed the importance of multidiscipliner study in making the diagnosis andtreatment as well. For choosing the satisfactory treatment modality, physiologic classification systemshould be used. In the need of medical treatment, the correct antibiotic choice should be done forefficacy. In surgical treatment debridement and antibiotic impregnated polymethylmetacrilate beadsapplication have better efficacy when compared to other modalities.

Osteomyelit ortopedinin en önemli sorunlarından biridir ve tedavideki tüm gelişmelere karşın önemli bir sorun olmaya devam etmektedir. Osteomyelitin tedavi yöntemleri ve etkinliklerini araştırdığımızda gerek tanı koyma gerek tedavi aşamasında multidisipliner bir çalışmanın gerekliliği açıktır. Gerekli tedavinin seçimi ve uygulamasında fizyolojik sınıflamanın önemi büyüktür. Medikal tedavide antibiyotik seçimi önemliyken cerrahi tedavide debridman ve sonrasında antibiyotikli polimetilmetakrilat zincirleri kullanmak diğer tedavi yöntemlerine göre daha etkili sonuçlar vermektedir.
