Abstract
Percussion instruments are instruments that take part in many musical cultures andare used in entertainment, rituals, communication, war, education and in manyother places. As in other instruments, percussion instruments emerge in a societyas the invention of an individual or individuals, or through diffusion from onesociety to the other. For the completion of these processes, the instruments mustbe adopted by the society. Cajón is an instrument that emerged as the invention ofAfrican slaves (Afro-Peruvian) living in Peru during the Spanish colonial period. Itwas brought to Spain from Peru by Paco de Lucia at the end of the 1970’s and wasfirst used in a Flamenco concert. Cajón, which has become an indispensableinstrument of Flamenco music in a short time, is now used in many different typesof music. This article, which studies the emergence of the cajon as an invention andits arrival in Spain through diffusion, was carried using interviews, papers andbooks many of which were accessed through the internet. The using rate of thismethod called virtual ethnography is rapidly increasing with the development of the internet today.
