Epicardial fat volume assessment according to syntax score in patients underwent coronary artery surgery

Abstract

Aim: The association between epicardial fat volume (EFV) and complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been well studied. The aim of this study was to research the relationship of thomographic epicardial fat to the complexity of CAD in patients underwent coronary artery surgery (CAS). Material and Method: We undertook a retrospective review of the records of 128 consecutive patients underwent CAS between August 2011 and December 2012. The patients were divided in three groups by Syntax score (SxS); Group I (low SxS), Group II (inter- mediate SxS) and Group III (high SxS). EFV was measured using 256-slice duasource computed thomography. EFV measurements were compared with SxS. Results: 128 patients were examined in the study (40 in group I, 55 in Group II and 33 in Group III). EFV was not significantly different among the groups with regard to the complexity of CAD. On the other hand, there was no correlation between VEAT and SxS (r = 0.014, P= 0.871). Conclusion: Increased EFV is not associated and correlated with the complexity of CAD in patients undergoing CAS.

Özet

Amaç: Epikardiyal yağ volümü (EYV) ve kompleks koroner arter hastalığı (KAH) arasındaki ilişki detaylı incelenmemiş bir konudur. Bu çalışmanın amacı koroner arter cerrahisine giden hastalarda KAH kompleksitesi ile tomografi ile ölçülmüş EYVnün ilişkisini araştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Ağustos 2011-Aralık 2012 tarihleri arasında koroner arter cerrahisi yapılan koroner anjiyografileri öncesinde çok kesitli bilgisayarlı tomografik koroner anjiyografileri çekilmiş olan ardışık 128 hastanın kayıtlarını retrospektif olarak inceledik. Hastalar Syntax skorlarına (SxS) göre üç gruba ayrıldı; Grup I (düşük SxS), Grup II (orta SxS) ve Grup III (yüksek SxS). EYV 256 kesitli çift kaynaklı bilgisayarlı tomografi ile ölçüldü. EYV, SxS değerleri ile karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Grup Ide 40, Grup IIde 55, Grup IIIde 33 olmak üzere toplam 128 hasta çalışmada incelendi. EYV ile KAH kompleksitesinin gruplarda karşılaştırılmasında istatiksel anlamlılık elde edilmedi. Diğer yandan EYV ile SxS arasında korelasyon bulunmadı (r=0,014, P=0,871). Sonuç: Koroner arter cerrahisine giden hastalarda EYV, KAH kompleksitesine eşlik etmez ve korele değildir.
