Abstract
Modernization has been conceptualized since the 18th century. Starting fromthe 19th century, it has affected almost every nation of the world as atransformation process. Modernization process in Turkey, having started inthe late Ottoman period before the Republic, continued in the Republicanperiod. This is reflected in music policies based on Ziya Gökalp’s idea ofcreating a new contemporary Turkish music that would rise on Turkish folkmusic. With the ideas of nationalism and Turkism becoming stronger, initiatives to create a national Turkish music led the intellectuals towards folkmusic. In this new structuring of the folk music, the members of the traditionhave been directed to new searches in order to adapt the tradition of art musicto the conditions of the modernization process. In this study, establishing adiscussion on the Turkish classical choir, attempts of fusing the concepts oftradition and modernization were presented. "Music and Politics in theexample of Modernization Process in Turkey" and "Classical Choir" weredescribed under the headings and examined. The research is a descriptivesurvey study in which books, doctoral dissertations, articles and internetresources were utilized.
