The Propaganda of the Committee of Union and Progress with Leyla Saz Hanım’s Artistic Perspective: Turkish Art Music, Vicdân-ı Muâzzam

LEYLA SAZ HANIM’IN SANAT ANLAYIŞIYLA İTTİHAT VE TERAKKİ PROPAGANDASI: TÜRK SANAT MÜZİĞİ VİCDÂN-I MUÂZZAM

Abstract

Ottoman Sultan II. Abdulhamid declared the Second Constitutional Monarchy in 1908. After the declaration of Constitutional Monarchy, The Committee of Union and Progress Party began to increase its influence on the Empire. The Party, especially towards the Unionist Enver Bey, started a big propaganda activity and shoed Enver Bey as a "Freedom Hero" in Ottoman society. In this process, the art of music was used effectively in propaganda activities of the party. In this study, it was discussed how Turkish music was used in the propaganda activities of the Committee of Union and Progress Party. In this respect, the words of the Vicdân-ı Muâzzam of the famous Composer Leyla Saz, which was used in the propaganda activities of the Committee of Union and Progress, were examined by using semiotic analysis and its melody was analyzed through musical analysis. As a result of the semiotic analysis of the study, it was found that The Committee of Union and Progress offered themselves to the Ottoman people as "saviors" and "heros". When the Vicdân-ı Muâzzam Anthem was examined with sensory analysis method, it was determined that the anthem was composed in the makam Hicazkâr within Turkish traditional art music structure, between the range of Sol (Rast) - Do (Tiz Çargâh), in march rhythmic form, in ascending scale, and in 4/4 Sofyan usûl.

Özet

1908 yılında Osmanlı Sultanı II. Abdülhamid, İkinci Meşrutiyet'i ilan etmiştir. Meşrutiyetin ilanından sonra, İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti, İmparatorluk üzerindeki nüfuzunu giderek attırmaya başlamaktadır. Cemiyet, özellikle İttihatçı Enver Bey'e yönelik büyük bir propaganda faaliyetine yönelerek, Osmanlı Tebaası'nda Enver Bey'in "Hürriyet kahramanı" olarak anılmasını sağlamaktadır. Bu süreçte Cemiyet'in propaganda faaliyetlerinde müzik sanatı etkin bir şekilde kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Türk müziğinin İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti'nin propaganda faaliyetlerinde nasıl ve ne yönde kullanıldığı ele alınmıştır. Bu açıdan, İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti'nin propaganda faaliyetlerinde kullanılan, dönemin ünlü Bestecisi Leyla Saz Hanım'ın Vicdân-ı Muâzzam eserinin sözleri göstergebilimsel analize, müziği ise müzik analizine tabi tutularak incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın göstergebilimsel analizi sonucunda, İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti'nin, Osmanlı halkına kendisini "kurtarıcı" ve "kahraman" olarak sunduğu ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Vicdan-ı Muazzam Marşı duyumsal analiz yöntemi ile incelendiğinde, marşın GTSM (Geleneksel Türk Sanat Müziği) makamsal yapısına göre Hicazkâr makamı dizisinde Sol (Rast) Do (Tiz Çargâh) ses aralığında, marş ritmik formunda, inici seyirde ve 4/4 Sofyan usulünde bestelendiği belirlenmiştir.
