Corneal topographic changes following trabeculectomy

Abstract
PURPOSE: To determine changes in refractive error and corneal topography following trabeculectomy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed a prospective study evaluating refractive and topographic changes in 11 consecutive patients undergoing a standardized trabeculectomy. Preoperatively, and at 4, and 12 weeks postoperatively, we measured the refractive error, and analyzed computerized video-keratographic studies including axial, tangential and Holladay Diagnostic Summary refractive maps. RESULTS: At one month postoperatively mean corneal power increased 0,54 + 0,39 diopters, and a slight steepening of the cornea just anterior to the bleb was observed. By 12 weeks, the corneal topographic changes returned to preoperative values in 10 of 11 patients. CONCLUSION: Slight differences on corneal topography following trabeculectomy is transient and return to preoperative values within 12 weeks.

AMAÇ: Trabekülektomi sonrasında refraktif ve korneal topografik değişileri incelemek GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Standart trabekülektomi ameliyatı yapılan 11 hasta prospektif olarak incelendi. Hastaların preoperatif ve postoperatif 1. ve 3. aylarda refraksiyon (manifest) ve kompüterize topografik ölçümleri aksiyel, tanjansiyal ve refraktif haritalar kullanılarak incelendi. BULGULAR: Postoperatif birinci ayda ortalama korneal kırıcılıkta 0,54 + 0,39 dioptrilik bir artış görüldü. Korneal topografide blebin tam önündeki bölgede hafif bir dikleşme izlendi. Üçüncü ayda 11 hastanın 10 tanesinde korneal topografik değişiklikler preoperatif düzeylere döndü. SONUÇ:Trabekülektomi sonrası kornea topografisinde görülen hafif değişiklikler geçici olup postoperatif 12 haftada preoperatif düzeylere dönmektedir.
