Abstract

31 cases who underwent penetrating keratoplasty in acute stage of cornea infection between 1984-1991 in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Eye Clinic were followed up 6-59 months (mean 16.5 months). Patients were divided into 3 groups as corneal abcesses, corneal ulcers and herpetic keratitis. All eyes other than a case of corneal ulcer were saved. A higher rate of clear grafts were achieved in the corneal ulser group with the smal¬ler graft diameter. Postoperative complications were as follows: anterior synechia.posterior synechia, cataract, se¬condary glaucoma, adherent leuconnas. Keratoplasty in acute stage of corneal infections should be performed as last choice for the cases who did not respond to medical treatment or when a danger of perforation exists.
