Bardet-Biedl and related syndromes

Abstract

Bardet-Biedl and Related Syndromes Laurence and Moon in 1866, Bardet in 1920 and Biedl in 1922 reported syndromes with pigmentary retinopa-thy, hypogonadism and mental retardation, additional polydactyly and obesity may accompany. Ocular and systemic findings of these and related autosomal reces-sively inherited syndromes were evaluated for 5 cases, 3 females, 2 of them sisters and 2 males, detailed ocu¬lar, systemic-pediatric examinations, electrophysiologic and biochemical studies were performed and results were discussed. Pigmentary retinopathy was founded in all of the cases and harmonious electrophysiologic results in all of • them. Polydactyly was founded in all of the cases, men¬tal retardation and obesity in 4 cases, bilateral cryptor-chidism in 1 case, parental consanquinity in 3 cases, hearing loss in 1 case. Finally the need of further investigation is emphasized in cases of pigmentary retinopathy with polydactyly and obesity for Bardet-Bieldl and related syndromes.

Özet

1866' da Laurence, ve Moon, 1920' de Bardet ve 1922' de Biedl ta¬rafından, pigmenter retinopati, hipogonadizm ve mental retar-dasyonun birlikte olduğu, polidaktili ve obezitenln eşUk edebildiği sendromlar bildirilmiştir. Otozomal resesif katılım gösteren bu sendromlar ve ilişkili diğer sendromlann oküler ve sistemik bulgu¬ları, 2' si kardeş üç kız ve 2 erkek, toplam 5 olgu nedeniyle değer¬lendirilmiş, ayrıntılı oküler, slstemik-pedlatrlk muayeneler, elektro¬fizyolojik ve biyokimyasal incelemeler yapılarak sonuçlar tartışıl¬mıştır. Tüm olgularda pigmenter retinopati ve uyumlu elektrofizyolojik so¬nuçlar saptanmıştır. Tine tüm olgularda polidaktili, 4 olguda men¬tal retardasyon, 4 olguda obezite, 1 olguda inmemiş testis, 3 olgu¬da akraba evliliği hikayesi ve 1 olguda iletim tipi işitme kaybı sap¬tanmıştır. Sonuçta pigmenter retinopati ve poUdaktilinin birlikte olduğu olgu¬ların Bardet-Biedl sendromu ve ilişkili diğer sendromlar açısından ileri tetkikinin gereği.vurgulanmıştır.
