Intraoperative mitomycin C application together with conjunctival flap in recurrent pterygium

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of intraoperative administration of mitomycin C together with conjunctival flap in patients with recurrent pterygium. After the pterygium excision and single dose 0.2 mg/ml mitomycin C application for 3 minutes the exposed sciera was covered by conjunctival flap rotation from 12 o'clock position in 30 patients with recurrent pterygium. After a mean follow-up time of 9.31 + 3.51 months, recurrence rate was 10 %. During the follow-up no severe complicatitons or side effects of therapy were observed. In conclusion, it is thought that intraoperative application of mitomycin C together with the use of conjunctival flap is an effective treatment alternative in recurrent pterygium surgery.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, İntraoperatif mitomisin C uygulanıp konjonktival flep kaydırılan nüks pterjium olgularındaki sonuçların değerlendirilmesidir. Nüks pterjiumlu 30 hastada pterjium eksizyonu ve tek doz 0.2 mg/ml mitomisin C'nin 3 dakika uygulamasından sonra Saat 12 hizasından kaydırılan konjonktival flep ile açık kalan skiera alanı örtüldü. Ortalama 9.31 ± 3.51 aylık takip sonrasında nüks oranı %10 idi. Takip süresince görmeyi etkileyen ciddi bir komplikasyon veya yan etki gözlenmedi. Sonuç olarak, İntraoperatif mitomisin C ve konjonktival flep uygulamasının nüks pterjium olgularında etkili bir tedavi seçeneği olduğu düşünüldü.
