The use of trypan blue in cataract surgery

Abstract
PURPOSE: In this study the use of trypan blue to facilitate the performance of capsulorhexis will be discussed. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Trypan blue 0.1% was applied to 133 eyes of 133 patients before capsulorhexis during phacoemulsification surgery. RESULTS: Thirtythree patients had mature, 51 patients had nucleocortical and 49 patients had posterior subcapsular cataracts. No complications were observed due to the use of trypan blue during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: The use of trypan blue especially for mature cataracts facilitates the performance of capsulorhexis by increasing the visibillity of anterior capsule.

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada kapsüloreksisin yapılmasını kolaylaştırmak amacıyla katarakt cerrahisi esnasında tripan mavisinin kullanımı tartışılacaktır. GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Fakoemülsifikasyon cerrahisi yapılan 133 hastanın 133 gözüne kapsüloreksis öncesi % 0.1 konsantrasyonunda tripan mavisi uygulandı. BULGULAR: Otuzüç hastada matür, 51 hastada nükleokortikal, ve 49 hastada arka subkapsüler katarakt mevcuttu. Postoperatif dönemde tripan mavisine bağlı bir komplikasyon izlenmedi. SONUÇ: Tripan mavisinin kullanımı özellikle matür kataraktlarda ön kapsülün görülmesini sağlayarak kapsüloreksis yapılmasına yardımcı olur.
