Abstract

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a disorder of cells derived from the neural crest, is a relatively common autosomal dominant disorder. We report the case of a six-year-old girl presenting at birth with unilateral congenital glaucoma. Diagnosis of type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF 1) was confirmed by six years of age with the emergence of cafe-au-lait spots, ipsilateral eyelid plexiform neurofibroma and facial hypertrophy. Magnetic resonance images (MRI) disclosed a brain hamartomas. NF 1 is rarely associated with congenital glaucoma. Initial presentation, characteristics of the clinical syndrome, and outcome of glaucoma in infants with NF 1 and congenital glaucoma were reviewed.
