Araştırmanın örneklemi, 2013/2014 eğitim öğretim yılında Mersin ili Silifke ilçesindeki MEB’e bağlı okullardan, basit seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 5 resmi okul ile 3 özel okulun sekizinci sınıflarında, matematik dersine giren 17 öğretmenden oluşmaktadır. Tarama modelindeki bu çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmış, elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yapılarak tema ve kodlar oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda, görüşülen öğretmenlere göre sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin matematik dersi TEOG sınavı başarıları ile akademik başarıları birbiriyle uyumlu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca araştırmadaki öğretmen görüşleri, okullardaki matematik öğretim sürecinin, ağırlıklı olarak merkezi sınav başarısına odaklı gerçekleştirildiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

Research sample was consisted of 17 math teachers of 8th grade students in 5 public and 3 private schools determined by using simple random sampling method in Silifke district of Mersin in 2013-2014 academic year. On this survey method research, semi-structured interview forms reformed by the researcher were used and themes and codes were created by being completed content analysis of data obtained through interviews. As a result of the research, 8th grade students’ TEOG achievements on math course are deem compatible with their academic achievements, according to the teachers participating in interviews. Furthermore, the opinions of the teachers, put forth that the process of math education is mainly being performed to focus on to be successful in TEOG exam.
