Screening of cryptococcus neoformans from eucalyptus camaldulensis trees in Denizli-Karahayit begion

Denizli-Karahayıt bölgesindeki eucalyptus camaldulensis ağaçlarından cryptococcus neoformans varlığının araştırılması

Abstract

Cryptococcus neoformans, an encapsulated basidiomyceteus yeast, causes diseases primarily immunocomprimised individuals such as transplant recipients, patients with immundefciency disorders, and patients undergoing chemo-, radio- and immunsupressive therapy. Eucalyptus spp is the major environmental host of the yeast. In aim of the study is to screening of humanpathogen C.neoformans presence from Eucalyptus camaldulesis trees in touristical Karahayıt region in Denizli. By swap sampling technique, 117 samples from 37 trees were collected. All samples have cultured on Staib agar. In result, no C.neoformans has been cultured from sampled E.camaldulensis despite the excessive screening methods. Environmental human-pathogen yeast screenning procedures are important for preventive medicine especially for tourism centers and densely populated regions.

Özet

Basidiomiçetlerden kapsüllü bir maya olan Cryptococcus neoformans çoğunlukla immünsistemi baskılanmış hastalarda (transplant alıcılarında, radyoterapi, kemoterapi ve immünsüpresif tedavi görenlerde, immün yetmezlik yaratan hastalığı olanlar gibi) primer infeksiyon etkenidir. Eucalyptus spp ağaçları sıklıkla kolonize olduğu fora elemanlarıdır. Bu çalışmada, Denizli’de turistik Karahayıt kasabasındaki Eucalyptus camaldulensis forasında insan patojeni C.neoformans varlığının aranması hedefenmiştir. Karahayıt kasabasında bulunan 37 E.camaldulensis ağacından eküvyonla örnekleme tekniği ile 117 örnek alındı. Kültür için Staib agar besiyeri kullanıldı. Sonuç olarak, yoğun örnekleme metodu uygulanmasına rağmen Karahayıt bölgesinde insan patojeni C.neoformans’ın kolonize olduğu E.camaldulensis ağacı bulunamamıştır. Yoğun nüfusa sahip ve turizmin önemli olduğu bölgelerde çevresel insan patojeni mayaların varlığının taranması koruyucu hekimlik açısından önemlidir.
