The Opinions Of Would-Be-Teachers And Teachers Of Social Sciences About Geography Courses

Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmen Adayları ve Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenlerinin Coğrafya Dersleriyle İlgili Görüşleri

Abstract

This study tried to determine the opinions of teachers and would-be-teachers of social sciences about geography courses. The sampling of the study was composed of 78 would-be-teachers at Dumlupinar University, Education Faculty, Primary School Education Department, the Chair of Social Science Teaching and 37 teachers of social sciences working at state schools of Ministry of Education (MEB) in the city centre of Kütahya. Data gathering was carried out through 10 questions prepared according to Likert scale of five in order to determine the opinions of teachers and would-be-teachers of social sciences about geography courses. The data were gathered in March 2007 and their analysis was done with the SPSS program. As a result, no significant difference could be found in the opinions of both teachers and would-be-teachers of social sciences about geography courses according to the variance of gender. However, according to the variance of graduation of the teachers, a significant difference was found in the opinions of the teachers in some questions in favour of geography graduates. Özet

Bu araştırmada, sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adayları ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin coğrafya derslerine yönelik görüşleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi Dumlupınar Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi ilköğretim Bölümü Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalında öğrenim gören 78 öğretmen adayı öğrenci ve Kütahya il merkezinde MEB’e bağlı devlet okullarında görev yapan 37 sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenidir. Veri toplama aracında öğretmen adaylarının ve öğretmenlerin coğrafya derslerine yönelik görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla beşli likert tipine göre hazırlanmış on soru bulunmaktadır. Veriler, Mart 2007’de toplanmış ve verilerin analizi SPSS programı ile yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, hem sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının hem de sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin coğrafyaya yönelik görüşlerinde cinsiyet değişkenine göre anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Mezuniyet değişkenine göre ise öğretmenlerin coğrafyaya yönelik görüşlerinde bazı sorularda coğrafya mezunları lehine anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Diğer sonuçlar araştırmada detaylı olarak açıklanmıştır.
