Abstract
Acute renal colic is one of the most anguishing form of pain. And it is the most common urological acute condition in emergency rooms. The lifetime risk of developing an acute attack of flank pain is estimated at 1-10 %. Although ureteral and renal stone disease are the prime consideration in the differantial diagnosis of flank pain, there are many other antities that can manifest similar sign and symptoms. The diagnostic approach to renal has recently been changed due to the introduction of noninvasive radiologic procedures. This review will give new insights into the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment modalities of acute renal colic.
