Abstract

The Russian Nikolaev Hospital, built in 1875 in Nişantaşı Pangaltı providing health services until thefirst years of the Republic and left deep traces in the Slavic-Orthodox world of Istanbul. The hospital wasconstructed with the great efforts of the Russian ambassador Ignatiev who was a strict Pan-slavist, thevoluntary persons, and institutions, especially the Aynoroz Russian Monasteries. Nikolaev hospital did notonly offered free health assistance to Russian and Orthodox in needs living in Istanbul, it also becamethe most comprehensive outpost for health, religion, and education serving Russia’s Slavic brotherhoodin the Ottoman capital. In the Russian Hospital, which used to modern health service methods accordingto possibility of the period, served the Slavic-Orthodox leaders, members of the Russian embassy, and thedisciplined, self-sacrificing, faithful people who believed in the policy of Russia and living in Istanbul. Thedetailed information given about the hospital in our study is obtained from the book of V. P. Şepotyev,a doctor of Moscow University who came to Istanbul as the chief physician in 1890 and served in thishospital for many years. Şepotyev, who gave the hospital institutional identity, summarized the first 25 yearsof the hospital in his work titled Dvadtsatipyatiletiye Russkoy Nikolayevskoy Bol’nitsı v Konstantinopole (S.Peterburg 1900).

Özet

1875’te Nişantaşı Pangaltı’da inşa edilen ve Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarına kadar sağlık hizmeti verenRus Nikolayev Hastanesi, sıkı bir Panslavist olan dönemin Rus elçisi İgnatiyev’in büyük gayretleri, Afon(Aynoroz) Rus Manastırları başta olmak üzere, gönüllü kişi ve kuruluşların maddi destekleriyle kurulmuşolup, İstanbul’un Slav-Ortodoks dünyasında derin izler bıraktı. İstanbul’da yaşayan, yardıma muhtaç Rusve Ortodoksların ücretsiz tedavi gördüğü hastane; sağlık, din ve eğitim sahasında Rusya’nın, Osmanlıbaşkentinde Slav kardeşliğine hizmet eden en kapsamlı bir ileri karakolu olarak faaliyet gösterdi. Döneminimkânlarına göre modern yöntemler kullanılan hastanede İstanbul’da yaşayan Slav-Ortodoks ileri gelenler,Rus elçiliği mensupları ve Rusya’nın davasına inanmış, disiplinli, özverili, inançlı insanlar hizmet verdi.Bu çalışmada hastane ile ilgili verdiğimiz detaylı bilgiler, Moskova Üniversitesi hekimlerinden olup1890 yılında başhekim olarak İstanbul’a gelen ve uzun yıllar bu hastanede görev yapan, aynı zamandahastaneye kurumsal bir kimlik kazandıran V. P. Şepotyev’in, hastanenin kuruluşundan itibaren ilk 25 yılınıözetlediği Dvadtsatipyatiletiye Russkoy Nikolayevskoy Bol’nitsı v Konstantinopole (S. Peterburg 1900) isimlikitapçığından elde edilmiştir.
