Abstract
The Resistance Index in External Carotid Artery in the Postmenopausal Patients Treated with Transdermal 17-p estradiol The beneficial effects of estrogen therapy on cardiovascular disease cannot be wholly explained by changes in plasma lipids or the lipoprotein. profile. This study has been conducted to evaluate the direct influence of transdermal estradiol on the vascular system of 23 postmenopausal women compared to 12 postmenopausal women who didn't want to take any medicine as a control group. Patients were performed total abdominal hysterectomy for various benign conditions. They all had no other medical problems. We used the color doppler ultrasound to assess resistant index of external carotid arteries at first examination and at 8th week of the¬rapy. In treatment group significant decrease in resistant index of external carotid artery was observed by the 8th week of the the¬rapy (pretreatment 0.697±0.045SD vs 8th week: 0.660+0.052SD P<0.05). There was no decrease in control group moreover minimal increase in their second resistant index measurement was found (First measurement 0.662+0.05 vs 8th week 0.681+0.045 p>0.05). We concluded that estrogen decreases vascular tone as generalized phenomenon
Özet
Estrogenin kardiovasküler sisteme olumlu etkisi tümüyle plazma lipoprotein profilindeki değişiklikle açıklanamaz. Bu çalışma 23 postmenopozal hastada trandermal estradiolün direkt vasküler sisteme etkisini ölçmek için kontrol grubu olarak ilaç kullanmak iste¬meyen 12 hasta üe karşüaştırtlarak uygulandı. Hastalara benign nedenlerle histerektomi uygulanmıştı. Başka bir medikal problem¬leri yoktu. Renkli dopler ultrasonografi cihazı kullanılarak ilk görüşmede ve 8 haftada eksternal karotid arter rezistans indeks öl¬çümleri yapıldı. Tedavi grubunda tedavinin 8. haftasında eksternal karotid arter resiztans indeksinde önemli azalma görüldü. (Başlangıç rezistans indeks 0.697±0.045 SD, 8. hafta 0.660+0.052 SD p 0.05) Biz estro¬genin generalize olarak vasküler tonusu azalttğına karar verdik.
