ADAPTING THE DREAM MOTIFS SCALE TO TURKISH AND TESTING THE RELATIONSHIP WITH PSYCHOLOGİCAL SYMPTOMS

RÜYA MOTİFLERİ ÖLÇEĞİNİN TÜRKÇEYE UYARLANMASI VE PSİKOLOJİK SEMPTOMLARLA İLİŞKİSİNİN SINANMASI

Abstract

Today, discussions and researches on dreams are ongoing. The aim of this research is to present ideas to be made about dream in Turkey and to open this subject to the discussion. The purpose of this research to test the relationship between dreams and psychological symptoms using the adapted Turkish version of the Scale, Dream Motif Scale - Short Form, developed by psychologist Yu, C. K. (2018). The Dream Symbols Inventory and Brief Symptom Inventory were used. In the analysis of the data, confirmatory factor analysis was performed to examine the validity of the Dream Motifs Scale, and the Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient was calculated to examine the reliability of the scale scores. Correlations between the Dream Symbols Scale and the Brief Symptom Browsing Inventory subscales were examined to test the Criterion Relation Validity. The higher alpha coefficients for the subscales of the scale (Actual Exception = .80, Blown Self = .84, Satisfaction of Evil = .87, Dissatisfaction-Satisfaction = .80) suggests that the items in the subscales are consistent with each other. AFA and DFA results also confirm the validity of the scale. Correlation coefficients were calculated between subdimensions of The Adaptive Dream Motifs Scale and subscales of The Short Symptom Inventory; it was accepted as the existence of a relationship between the frequency of dreaming of similar dreams and our psychic health. In conclusion, based on the validity and reliability studies, it can be said that the Turkish version of the Dream Motifs Scale is applicable in scientific studies

Özet

Günümüzde rüya konusunda tartışma ve araştırmalar devam etmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye’de rüya konusunda yapılacak çalışmalara fikirler sunmak ve konuyu tartışmaya açmaktır. Araştırmanın amacı Yu, C. K.-C. (2018) tarafından geliştirilen Rüya Motifleri Ölçeği Kısa Formun (Dream Motif Scale – Short Form) Türkçe uyarlamasını yapmak ve uyarlaması yapılan ölçeği kullanarak, rüyalar ile psikolojik semptomlar arasındaki ilişkiyi test etmektir. Rüya Motifleri Ölçeği ve Kısa Semptom Envanteri (Brief Symptom Inventory) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, Rüya Motifleri Ölçeği’nin yapı geçerliğini incelemek amacıyla doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmış, ölçek puanlarının güvenirliğini incelemek için ise Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Ölçüt Bağıntı Geçerliği’ni sınamak amacıyla, Rüya Motifleri Ölçeği ile Kısa Semptom Tarama Envanterin alt boyutların arasında korelasyonlara bakılmıştır. Ölçeğin alt boyutlarına ilişkin Alpha katsayılarının yüksek olması (Gerçek Dışılık= .80, Şişirilmiş Kendilik= .84, Kötülük Kuruntusu= .87, TatminsizlikDoyumsuzluk= .80), alt boyutlarda yer alan maddelerin birbiriyle tutarlı olduğunu göstermektedir. AFA ve DFA sonuçları da ölçeğin geçerliliğini teyit etmiştir. Uyarlaması yapılan Rüya Motifleri Ölçeğinin alt boyutları ile Kısa Semptom Envanterinin alt boyutları arasında hesaplanan korelasyon katsayıları; benzer rüyaları görmedeki sıklık ile ruh sağlığımız arasında bir ilişkinin varlığı olarak kabul edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmalarına dayanılarak Rüya Motifleri Ölçeğinin Türkçe versiyonunun bilimsel çalışmalarda uygulanabilir olduğu söylenebilir
