FACTORS AFFECTING THE ELECTION OF THE UNIVERSITY: A STUDY ON COOKERY AND GASTRONOMY STUDENTS

Abstract

As a requirement of the education system, students take the university examination and take an important step towards their future. Students begin their university life by making higher education choices in order to work in various occupational groups. The number of departments that can be preferred within the scope of higher education is increasing. In order to get the university education they want, university preferences need to be done carefully. The aim of the study is to determine the factors that affect the university preferences of the university students who prefer the gastronomy department and the cookery program. In this context, the factors that cookery and gastronomy students considered when making their university preferences were investigated. Located in universities in Turkey and Cyprus, culinary and gastronomic part of the program students comprise the universe of the study. The sample of the study consisted of 1213 students studying in the cookery and gastronomy departments in Turkey and Cyprus. Research was conducted at 30 different universities. The data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA analysis. As a result of the study, the factors determined by the students in the sample group in the university preference; dignity, job opportunities and activities and environment. The demographic differences of the obtained factor groups were also examined. This research, which is important in terms of the scope of gastronomy and culinary programs, is important in terms of future planning in terms of universities, guiding students and making comparisons in different departments.

Eğitim sisteminin bir gereği olarak, öğrenciler üniversite sınavına girerek gelecekleri konusunda önemli bir adım atmaktadır. Öğrenciler çeşitli meslek gruplarında çalışmak üzere yükseköğretim tercihlerini yaparak üniversite hayatına başlamaktadırlar. Yükseköğretim kapsamında tercih edilebilecek bölüm sayısı giderek artmaktadır. İstedikleri üniversite eğitimini alabilmek açısından, üniversite tercihlerinin dikkatli bir şekilde yapılması gerekmektedir. Araştırmanın amacı, aşçılık programı ile gastronomi bölümünü tercih eden üniversite öğrencilerinin üniversite tercihlerini etkileyen faktörleri belirlemektir. Bu bağlamda araştırma kapsamında aşçılık ve gastronomi öğrencilerinin üniversite tercihlerini yaparken dikkate aldıkları faktörler araştırılmıştır. Araştırma evreni, Türkiye ve Kıbrıs’taki üniversitelerde bulunan aşçılık programı ve gastronomi bölümü öğrencileridir. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise Türkiye ve Kıbrıs’ta aşçılık ve gastronomi bölümlerinde okuyan 1213 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırma kapsamında 30 farklı üniversiteden veri toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, t-testi ve ANOVA analiziyle incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda örneklem grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin üniversite tercihinde belirledikleri faktörler; saygınlık, iş olanakları ve etkinlikler ile çevre olduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen faktör gruplarının demografik açıdan farklılıkları da incelenmiştir. Gastronomi ve aşçılık programlarının kapsamı açısından önem taşıyan bu araştırma, üniversiteler açısından gelecek planlamasına fikir vermesi, öğrencilere yol göstermesi ve farklı bölümlerde araştırmaların yapılarak karşılaştırma yapılabilmesi açısında önemli olmaktadır.
